How it works

Five steps, from your name to the table.

There is no feed of faces and no public profile. We look for someone who fits what you asked for. A person on our side writes the introduction.

Why this way of dating works overseas

  1. 01

    Create a private account

Tell us if you are a man or a woman, your age range, and an email or New Zealand mobile. Upload a photo. Other members cannot search for you.

  2. 02

    Answer a few more questions

Where you are from, who you hope to meet, and a short note in your own words. We also ask what you eat and which nights you can do dinner, because the first date is in a restaurant. This is never published.

  3. 03

We find a match. A human connects you.

We look for people who fit your profile and preferences. A person on our side then connects you: a first name, a neighbourhood, a few lines.

  4. 04

You say yes, or you pass

If you pass, the other person is not told about it. We send another introduction when we have someone who fits what you asked for.

  5. 05

If you both say yes, we book dinner

We hold a table for two at one of the restaurants below. We cover your meal and drinks.

What it costs

Joining is free. We cover your dinner.

There is no membership fee. You do not pay to join, to stay, or to be introduced. We do not sell your information. Partner restaurants never receive a list of members — only a booking for two people who already said yes.

When you both say yes, we cover your meal and drinks.

*Up to $150 including drinks.

Who it’s for

If you live here and want a partner.

Mesa is a private table for Latinas and latinos who live in Auckland — Brazil, the rest of South America, Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean. Most people here are in their late twenties to forties and hoping to meet a partner. If you are only visiting, or you want something casual, this is not the right room.

Moving here often means your friends and family are a long flight away. Sunday used to be a long lunch; here it can be you and the supermarket. Dating apps in Auckland are built around photos, and a lot of people on them are not looking for the same thing you are. You tell us who you hope to meet — someone from a similar background, someone who grew up here, or either — and we introduce from that.

If you grew up in New Zealand and live in Auckland, you can join. Same questions. Same standard. Treat someone badly after a dinner and you are removed.

Addresses and what they cover

Questions

Things people ask before they join.

How long until I get an introduction?+

We send one person at a time, when we have someone who fits what you asked for — not a pile of matches. There are already more than 500 people on the waitlist, and a person reads these before we write. That can take time. We will contact you when we have an introduction or a table, not before. If you need something faster, this is not the right place.

How is this different from Tinder?+

There is nothing to swipe. Other members cannot see you. You get one introduction: a first name, a neighbourhood, a short note. You say yes or you pass. If you pass, the other person is not told about it. If you both say yes, we cover your dinner.

Who pays for dinner?+

We cover your meal and drinks.* Joining Mesa is free.

Will anyone see my profile or photos?+

You upload a photo when you join so we can match you. Other members cannot browse you. There is no public profile.

Can I join if I’m not Latino or Latina?+

Yes, if you live in or near Auckland and you want a partner, not something casual. We ask who you hope to meet. We do not assume.
